At Rubygates Preparatory School, one of our cardinal values is to ensure that all our toddlers in the preschool and those in higher classes are exposed to books early in life and to ingrain in them such a love of books and reading that they develop an insatiable appetite for life-long reading.
As parents who have been with us for a while, you will agree that our pupils in KG1 (2-3year olds), are already acquiring the skills with which to become independent readers at age appropriate levels and more as quickly as possible. Those in Nursery 2 (4-5year olds) are already reading at their age appropriate levels too.
Sustaining these strides and character of the school is not something the school and its teachers can achieve alone, not with the social negativity that has permeated the society we live in and the ever dwindling value that the society places on true education. Most homes have no bookshelf, no books in the house beyond a couple or so bland school text books, and even more sadly, no reading parents or older siblings to model reading to younger ones. As a result, people are growing up narrow minded, schooled but uneducated, and with little or no language skills. Rubygates intends to make a difference. But we need you, dear Parents.
Therefore, please be reminded of your commitment to attend the Rubygates Commemoration of this year’s World Book Day on 24th February, 2016 at 11:00am in the school premises.
Remember that at the last Parents’ Forum we did say we were going to assign books to parents to read for themselves, read to their children and be ready to discuss with the general house and to share tips they’ve discovered about getting children interested in reading. The book assignation will be done, God willing, this week. Each Parent will get a title which they can obtain from the school. Be on the Look Out.
